Manuka honey is made from the nectar collected by bees from the flowers of the Manuka tree, which is indigenous to New Zealand. Compared to other types of honey, Manuka honey has been tested to be much richer in anti-bacterial activity. The terms Active or UMF are used to indicate whether a type of honey has been tested for higher anti-bacterial activity and given a rating based on the strength of the activity.

When it comes to skincare, the most important thing to consider is the volume of Manuka honey used in products. A low percentage won’t make much of a difference, whereas higher volumes are ideal. Since the Apicare Manuka honey skin range is made from honey which is farmed ethically from our own bees in New Zealand, we ensure that each product in this range is enriched with enough Manuka honey to make it as effective as possible.
